Be Part of Our Girls in AI Program
Join our Girls in AI program, where young girls and women with fewer opportunities in Africa learn practical AI, coding, chatbot development, data science and design thinking skills. Start your journey with Girls in AI and gain the confidence, in-demand tech and leadership skills to thrive in AI, STEM and entrepreneurship.
AI and Digital Skills
Our programs combine STEM and digital skills including the fundamentals of coding, electronics, machine automation and creative problem-solving to help you build real-world solutions. We equip you with hands-on education in:
a) Robotics and Coding
b) Artificial Intelligence
c) Design Thinking
d) Data Science
e) Space Technology
Join our programs to experience project-based learning, design robots, build AI-powered applications, develop chatbots, explore satellite and space technologies.
AI and Life Sciences
Are you ready to use artificial intelligence in neuroscience, microbiology, drug development and healthcare in Africa? We support STEM students and researchers in exploring how AI tools are advancing biology and life sciences.
Through our programs, participants learn to use biocomputational tools such as AlphaFold 3, DeepVariant, UniProt and more to deepen their understanding of molecular biology, genomic variation, RNA sequencing as well as protein structure and function.
Research and Knowledge
Our research mavericks at Mator Design conduct research on interventions addressing issues in education, youth empowerment, climate action, financial inclusion, skills development and emerging technologies.
Through our network of schools, innovation hubs and institutions, we engage directly with youth, ensuring research outputs are context-driven, inclusive and designed to create meaningful change.
We leverage our expertise in research methodologies and statistical analysis to generate actionable insights that inform policies and youth empowerment efforts, delivering real impact for youth, girls and marginalized communities in Africa.
In 2024, we designed Design Thinking toolkits and trained over 200 SMEs from 6 SADC countries under the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa on Driving growth and competitiveness in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through technology and innovation.
Mator Design led the 2025 mentorship program on design thinking and AI under the Digital Skills Development for Green Jobs and Entrepreneurship initiative in Zimbabwe. Funded by Sweden Sverige, SNV Zimbabwe and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the program equipped participants with digital, innovation and entrepreneurship skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Mator Design successfully led a design thinking and AI training program in collaboration with Tofara Online for Digital Africa students, with over 60% of participants being young girls. The initiative empowered learners with practical digital and innovation skills, strengthened partnerships and demonstrated an effective model for inclusive, future-ready technical skills development.
Mator Design is a 2025 UNDP dual award winner under the MineTech and Lithium Value Chain Challenges, receiving awards worth USD 10,000. Its innovations, DigiSafe and Lithium Loop, advance miner safety, lithium traceability and ethical sourcing while supporting Zimbabwe’s mining sector through digital transformation, local value addition and alignment with global ESG standards.
In 2026, we participated in the Ecofair event at Maranatha High School, showcasing how AI helps students build a sustainable future. We demonstrated AI tools like AlphaFold 3 for Rubisco protein analysis, showing how AI supports plant science and helps students understand biological pathways contributing to climate-adaptive crop development.
In May 2026, Mator Design facilitated a design thinking session in Epworth in collaboration with GirlUp Zimbabwe focused on developing reusable sanitary pads to help end period poverty. The initiative empowered more than 50 marginalized girls with practical design thinking skills, encouraged community-driven problem-solving and promoted affordable, sustainable menstrual solutions aimed at improving dignity, health and school attendance for girls and young women.
Mator Design led AI and design thinking training session at Arrupe Jesuit University for TeXpo 2024, sponsored by POTRAZ, Econet and Telco. The initiative engaged four university students and learners from over ten Zimbabwean high schools, three universities, enhancing AI skills, teamwork, problem-solving and innovation through collaborative activities.
